GI Joburg Episode 80: Fixing BF2K

Wednesday Feb 08, 2017
Battle Force: 2000. It's a broken concept. Whether it's the figure design; the characters and their representation; the vehicles; the gimmick... it's fair to say that these guys missed the mark somewhere along the line. So with the advantage of hindsight, GI Joburg undertake to fix BF2K. How can we make these toys desirable? How do we make sense of GI Joe's "Soldiers of the Future"? Is it even possible? Hit 'play'!
Also, expect much gushery over our new custom figures.
Much.

Stephan, do you think the toyline made by a white guy and mostly marketed to white guys has to be diverse when there are whole channels marketed to black people like BET or Asian channels etc? It's okay that one race makes a product that is mostly for that specific race. It doesn't make it non progressive. Japan isn't non progressive for keeping their racial majority a constant. They're keeping their country's core culture alive. Joe's are like that for mostly white America. And not in a white supremacist or r backwards way. There just aren't many non whites here making compelling storylines or toylines man. Until non whites start making new compelling franchises, don't expect the ones made by whites to be a progressive liberal's ideal diversity quota. And I'm saying this with compassion, not hate. I've just noticed a trend with you guys making sort of big deals out of Duke being Hitler's ideal man and other stereotypical comments about the white culture in America as if it's bad. I don't think the white culture in SA is bad. Or the Asian culture in Japan. Etc.

Dude, there were still white taxi drivers in America up until the 2000's. My ex's dad was a cab driver and white. He drove in Vegas. Stereotypical Stephen. 😏🍻

I kind of think the Artic Blast, Radar Rat, and Tri Blaster of 89 and the General and possibly the Locust of 90 were meant to be apart of BF2K. They share a similar color scheme and feel like they're meant to function together. The Cobra Battle Barge also feels like it's for that group. Like maybe they would have had a Cobra version of a build a playset.

Of course adult you would ditch something like the Dominator. Child me would want that toy and could use it for not than just snow. The skids could be for swamps, sand, pudding, you name it. It's called imagination Stephen. 😅

Okay, the dominator isn't bad at all. So there's one good BF2K. The eliminator is also cool, so no problem there. Two good toys. The Marauder is the first one I go eh too. It looks like it had potential as an almost Akira styled motorcycle with guns. Having a removable station is neat. And I like the double seating on the motorcycle. It's okay, so two and a half. The sky sweeper is pretty cool except the detachable part should have been shaped more like a humanoid mech. Other than that, this is a cool small vehicle. Better than most modern one seaters. So 3.5 so far. The Vector is cool as fuck dudes. I don't care what anyone says. That deployable gun and the design of the jet are great. The jet is almost like the Aurora. So 4.5. Okay now the vindicator. If it had a canopy it would be great. So 5.5. and the combined base: it's good. Not great because it should have been more like the tactical battle platform. So 6.5. the figures: they're okay. Not all great but some are okay. So 7/8. I don't see how this line "sucks" guys. I would love to get all these in package for cheap if "everyone" hates them so much. 😅🍻

I hope you're able to tell from my comments that I'm not mad at you guys when I disagree. I'm just passionate. 😅🍻

Hasbro is like crap! Paul's on to our clip intentionally wearing down the o-ring! 🤣

I'm a Joe toy fan and I like some of the BF2K. So you can't say we all agree on this being a bad idea. I just didn't like some of the vehicle designs and that it should have felt more like the tactical battle platform than it did. 😅🍻
