Episode 163: Anybody Want A "Meh" Toy?!
Wednesday Feb 12, 2020
Wednesday Feb 12, 2020
GI Joe is a toyline with incredible highs, and a few notable lows. But living in the middle are so-so toys that will forever be skippable... Or are they?
In Episode 163 the lads challenge themselves to convince fellow Joburg members of the merit of the less-than-stellar entries into the line. Will anyone be reaching for their credit card by the end of the show?
Plus, Paul got a T-Rex.

That being said, my favorite items will always be the smaller vehicles, especially those serving multi-purpose roles. Trubble Bubbles and LCVs - which I had an LCV as a kid and had decided it was “dumb” - are perfect vessels for taking outside to play. I even find something like the Coastal Defender as a neat little accessory. As far as ‘meh’ vehicles go, the Stellar Stiletto is one I’ve had in hand that I just can’t find use or interest in. The Patriot missile launcher I haven’t seen in person, but it looks too awkward to be useful. And while I have a Cobra Rat - I have no idea what to do with it. It does look kind of sort of neat in the toy’s commercial, but irl it’s just not very inspiring.

I’m probably one of the few ARAH collectors that started in 1982 and stayed almost the whole way through to 1994, the year I graduated high school. There were a lot of dislikes I had at the time that have softened over the years. A lot of the appeal to me as an adult collector is finally getting so many of those items I wanted as a kid that I didn’t have. Some work beautifully, some are merely functional, and others are garishly acceptable only through a nostalgic love of the line.

From Wikipedia: All Aircraft Carriers since the Midway have been built with a armorized deck with rubberized top. This helps to minimize slippage. Also they will have 2.5 inches of kevlar.

I totally agree, we need to see GI Joe as we did as kids. Stop analyzing it as an adult. Rob, sure, you buying these toys now as an adult but aren't we all playing and collecting them as a child. I think that's what brings us such joy is reliving the memories we had and made with Joe's when we were kids
